Katie Holmes: Motherhood comes first

Katie Holmes has joked that one of the biggest things motherhood means to her is that she's had to watch Disney movie Frozen a lot.

The actress has eight-year-old daughter Suri with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, who she split from and divorced in less than a fortnight in 2012. Since then Katie has been linked to several people, including Jason Segel in April, but she insists she has no time for romance.

"I am really focused on motherhood and work right now," she told the American edition of Glamour magazine.

Katie still finds it hard to express how much being a parent means to her. She has primary custody of Suri and is in no doubt about the biggest change motherhood has brought her.

"I've seen Frozen a lot," she laughed. "But the biggest change? I think you don't know - I didn't know how much love I had in me. It's overwhelming. Every day I discover more about this spectacular human being I get to be the mother of."

The 35-year-old actress remains best known for appearing in teen drama Dawson's Creek, but she has enjoyed success in the movies too. She cites her parents as the driving force behind her career as they always showed her that she could do whatever she wanted with life. They also taught Katie that remaining humble was essential.

"[M]y family has been so crucial to my outlook on life. I started acting at 17 and had success at an early age, where all of a sudden people knew who I was. But my parents always treated me the exact same way at home and reminded me of gratitude. And that's been a grounding force," she said.

Katie's latest release is The Giver, which is about a community without bad things like pain and war. A young boy is chosen to learn about the 'real world' from an old man. It also stars Meryl Streep and Katie calls working with the triple Oscar-winner a "dream come true".
