American star Katie Holmes is struggling to fund a bi-coastal lifestyle for daughter Suri, it has been claimed.

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Actress Katie Holmes is reportedly gearing up to apply for increased financial support from former husband Tom Cruise.

The 36-year-old was married to the Mission Impossible actor for five years until their divorce in 2012. The former couple have daughter Suri, nine, and it’s believed their little girl is the reason Katie wants more money from the 53-year-old thespian.

“Katie’s told friends she intends to pursue this as she’s struggling to fund a bi-coastal lifestyle for Suri, who’s privately educated,” an insider told Britain’s Grazia magazine. “Lately Katie’s been acting in low-budget films that don’t tend to pay as well, so she’s resolved to get Tom to pay more towards Suri’s upkeep.”

The former Dawson’s Creek star reportedly couldn’t ask Tom for more money until they had been divorced for three years due to a clause in their divorce papers.

When they initially finalised the end of their marriage, Katie received sole custody of their little girl and a relatively small financial settlement.

The outlet reports that Tom pays £22,000 a month to support his daughter. However Katie is reportedly unhappy with the figure as their offspring’s needs increase.

“As Suri gets older, Katie believes the figure is less adequate to fulfilling her needs, and for being a single parent and sole care-giver,” the source continued.

Katie has reportedly called on her lawyer father Martin to help things progress, who was also the man behind her pre-nup to Tom.

“Her dad has been crucial in helping her prepare her case,” the source added. “She’s fully braced for a court battle.”

It seems that the Edge of Tomorrow star is also prepared to fight it out in front of a judge.

“Tom has let it be known that he contests Katie’s financial demands, and is determined to challenge her,” another source said. “He tends to do whatever it takes to get his way.”
