Katy Perry and John Mayer will only make "sweet sounds" together on songs, according to a source.
The American stars have been seen together several times lately, most recently they enjoyed a meal at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles.
However, any romance speculation has now been rubbished with an insider claiming they are just friends.
"The only sweet sounds they'll be making together will be in the recording studio," the source told RadarOnline.com.
"Katy just isn't attracted to John in that way - she has tons of respect for him as a musician but doesn't want to hook up with him."
John has apparently offered to lay down some tracks with Katy and she is giving his proposal some thought. Although she would love to work with the crooner, she is said to be fearful of giving him the wrong idea.
"She also knows that John has a soft spot for her and she's using that to her advantage and loves the attention of being seen with good-looking guys," the insider explained.
"But for now, John will have to get used to being Katy's friend because she has zero interest in getting together with him and even gave his earlier advances the brush off."
Katy is single following her divorce from Russell Brand but was recently linked to Florence + the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd.
