Katy takes cover from photographers

Russell Brand and Katy Perry have arrived at Mumbai airport

Katy Perry became "coaty" Perry as she arrived at Mumbai airport with fiance Russell Brand and tried to hide from waiting photographers under an overcoat.

The I Kissed A Girl singer and the British actor are to be married later this week in the northern Indian town of Jaipur, according to local news reports.

Russell - who last month was alleged to have assaulted a photographer in Los Angeles - had a protective arm around his fiancee as he strode through the airport.

Katy, 25, has appealed for privacy on Twitter while the couple take a break from the limelight to get married.

She tweeted on Tuesday evening: "TWIT BREAK: Greatest gift you can give us is respect and love during this private time. No use wasting our time with STOLEN or FALSE info. Thank you for this."

The couple began dating after meeting at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009, where Russell was host.

The 35-year-old comedian proposed to Katy in India outside the Taj Mahal while the pair were enjoying a romantic holiday there in December 2009.

It has been reported that in a bid to keep details of their nuptials secret they sent friends and family an invitation that simply said they were getting married in India and the celebrations would last for up to a week.

Stars expected at the wedding include Rihanna, Jonathan Ross and David Walliams.
