Kim Cattrall: Smiley faces make me frown

Kim Cattrall wouldn't be able to have a long-term relationship with a man who used too many emojis.

The 58-year-old actress understands the importance of staying up to date with technology, but there are some things she can't get on board with. She may use a smiley face if messaging a friend about something funny, but that's where her relationship with text shorthand ends.

"Sometimes I’ll use a smiley if it’s of a really personal nature. I dated a guy who did that constantly and it just didn’t work," she told British magazine Stylist. "It didn’t annoy me, but it felt a bit juvenile. Listen, I’m British, I’m not a smiley face kind of girl."

Kim isn't always so hard on the men in her life. She prides herself on being benevolent and always taking time to talk to fans, shown when she donated part of her breakfast to a gent on the street.

"I remember once sitting on the street at a caff and had over-ordered the full-English breakfast. A guy walked by and pointed at the sausage on my plate and said, 'Excuse me are you going to eat that?' And I said, 'No, I’ve had enough.' He said, 'Do you mind if I have it - I haven’t had any breakfast.' And off he went with my sausage," she giggled.

Kim was born in Liverpool but moved to Canada when she was three months, only to return to the UK when she was 11. Her childhood wasn't easy, not only because of all the moving around but due to the strained financial situation of her mother Gladys and father Dennis.

"We had absolutely nothing and were just trying to make it work," she said. "My parents were brave beyond belief with two children and just enough to eat. We’d stop at gas stations to wash in a sink!"
