Kitty admits annoying even herself

Kitty Brucknell is looking forward to showing off her gothic side

Eccentric X Factor contestant Kitty Brucknell has confessed she is so annoying she is sometimes tempted to give herself a "slap".

The singer, who has divided viewers of the hit ITV1 talent show with her over the top performances and outrageous costumes, said she knew she would not "win a popularity contest".

She said: "Sometimes I can come across as a bit offensive and annoying. I watched the first audition and I wanted to slap me, I think everyone in England wanted to slap me."

Kitty appeared in the very first show of the series and impressed the panel with her audition before sitting on the edge of the stage, talking over the judges, and signing autographs for fans on her way out of the studio.

But she denied the show's bosses were deliberately portraying her in a bad light in a bid for publicity, saying: "I know how I was at the first audition. I think they were kind to me."

The singer, who had seen her idol Britney Spears in concert this week, said her performance in this weekend's Halloween special would "bring out the darker gothic side of me".

And she revealed her mentor Louis Walsh had to veto some of her wilder costume ideas, saying: "I wanted to be in a wedding dress covered in blood and he said 'no we can't do that, it's a family show'."
