Myleene Klass has signed up to host ITV's answer to The Great British Bake Off - a barbecue show.

The five-part series, BBQ Champ, will be broadcast this summer.

Contenders have to create "mouth-watering barbecue masterpieces" and "reinvent culinary classics for the coals", while contending with the vagaries of the British weather.

Instead of Bake Off's Cheshire cheese chaussons and tricky fondant fancies, burgers and sausages will be on the menu.

Two judges - Adam Richman, a US TV personality best known for Man vs Food, and Mark Blatchford, a restaurateur - will pick a winner who pockets £25,000 at the end of the series.

Klass said: "I am beyond excited to be hosting BBQ Champ. It's no secret that I'm partial to a good burger, so to be able to see culinary magic happening as well as get to sample it in situ is my absolute dream job."

Blatchford, who started his career at Claridge's before opening barbecue restaurants, said: "As a chef and a bloke I've been cooking over and in charcoal and wood for the past 15 years.

"It is without doubt the tastiest, most versatile and yet most natural cooking method there is. ... I can't wait to get stuck in to see what the competitors can do."

Grandmother Nancy Birtwhistle won the last series of Bake Off, judged by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, which attracted more than 12 million viewers on BBC1.
