Kristen Wiig makes age jokes
Kristen Wiig is "grateful" to be still working ahead of turning 40 this year.
The comic star turns 40 in August, an age which has proven tricky for some women in Hollywood when it comes to landing leading roles. Kristen has joked about the prospect of work offers drying up once she reaches the new decade.
"I know, that’s so weird, particularly as I never think about age. I guess it matters in 'the business'. All I know is I’m grateful that I’m working and let’s hope that after I turn 40 I still have opportunities," she joked to British newspaper The Metro. "And hey, I still have a few months left!"
Kristen looks much younger than 39 and admits she still thinks of herself as 33. Travelling the world to promote her latest movies can take its toll, and the star revealed her flawless appearance is down to cleverly hiding her imperfections.
"I’m so jetlagged. I just came from Paris this morning. Honestly it’s all make-up: shimmer, it’s all shimmer," she quipped. "I am just completely glittery right now."
Kristen has been dating The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti since 2012. Although she is clearly smitten with the musician, she prefers not to discuss the romance.
"I’d rather not talk about my… personal life," she said.
Kristen proved her comic chops as a regular on US sketch show Saturday Night Live from 2005 to 2012, and famously starred in and wrote Bridesmaids.
The movie was a huge hit and opened the floodgates for female-dominated comedy. Kristen remains modest about her success.
"Hey, I don’t want to take credit for opening the vagina floodgates," she laughed. "A lot of people ask if we were trying to make certain statements and show that women could act like men and it’s so funny, because I don’t see Bridesmaids in that way at all. I’m almost like: 'There were vagina jokes?' We just wrote stuff that made us laugh and, to me, it’s just a comedy about friendship and stuff – there are lots of things in it besides the puking and the pooing in the street."
