The reality star and the rapper split earlier this year (16), but reconciled months later.

Kylie Jenner refused to listen to anyone's advice concerning her relationship with rapper Tyga, insisting their relationship is real and not just for show.

The couple has been dating since 2014, but when they first started seeing each other, many people warned the 19-year-old to stay away from Tyga, who has a son with Kylie's brother Rob Kardashian's fiancee, Blac Chyna. However, Kylie knew she had to follow her heart and let the relationship progress because they are in love.

"The first year we started hanging out, everyone around him told him not to be with me," she tells Complex magazine. "I still get comments like, 'Don't be with him.' But we're not doing it for the public - we love each other. We need to be together at all times. We never get mad at each other, we just figure things out."

Another source of controversy for the couple was its age difference. Kylie was 17-years-old when she began dating Tyga, who is now 26-years-old. Kylie and Tyga did not go public until last year (15), when she was 18-years-old, but her sister Khloe Kardashian insists she is mature beyond her years and should be treated as though she can make her own decisions about the relationship. She explains if her sister is able to run her businesses, she's able to be with who she loves.

"You have to put things into perspective," Khloe tells the publication. "Kylie has to deal with all these responsibilities, but no one wants to treat her as an (adult) when it comes to relationships. But I love that T (Tyga) and Kylie didn't care. They just did what made them happy. They're so in love, and I think they're cute together."

Earlier this year (16), Kylie and Tyga split and she was linked to rapper PartyNextDoor. However, she insists they were just having "fun" and she was using her time to see how it felt to be by herself.

"I just needed to see what it was like not being with him," she continues. "We realised that wasn't what we wanted."

And now the reality star credits Tyga for helping her deal with the spotlight and get through her difficult days.

"At the end of the day, I have to live with everything I do," she says of the public scrutiny. "I'm just proud of myself for not going crazy. Tyga helped me with that a lot."
