LaBeouf seeks treatment for alcoholism
Shia LaBeouf has not checked into a rehabilitation facility, his representative confirms.
The 28-year-old actor, who was charged by police for disorderly conduct in New York City on Thursday, was rumoured to have checked into a rehabilitation facility this week.
But the star’s representative tells TMZ Shia has not checked into rehab, although he is seeking to change his lifestyle and reportedly “understands” he suffers from alcohol addiction.
“He has taken the first of many necessary steps toward recovery,” his rep said. No further details were provided.
The Fury actor was spotted carrying an Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book in California on Monday. He was also seen outside of a “celebrity-frequented” treatment facility in Hollywood, according to x17Online.
"Shia was nervous; he didn't look good all morning,” an x17 photographer said. “He was looking down and wasn't even talking to his driver. It looked like he didn't want to do it, but he knew he had to."
Shia was taken into custody last week after he allegedly acted erratically while sitting in the audience at Broadway musical Cabaret, starring Alan Cumming and Michelle Williams.
A spokesperson for the NYPD told TheWrap the actor was “acting disorderly, smoking and appeared to be intoxicated inside the theatre”.
He was subsequently charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass and released on his own recognisance.
He is next court date is scheduled for July 24.
The actor was also arrested for drunk driving in 2008 after he crashed his vehicle, injuring his hand and knee, according to the Associated Press.
