Lady Gaga has revealed details about the new single from her forthcoming album, ARTPOP.
The 27-year-old singer is working on her fourth studio album, ARTPOP.
The highly anticipated record will hit shelves November 11, two years after her last album, 2011's Born This Way.
Gaga made the announcement on Sunday via Twitter.
"Aug 19 buy single 'Applause' and pre-order album/app ARTPOP - Gaga," read the promo message, accompanied by a photo of the star cradling a tattooed plastic arm.
Fans will be able to pre-order ARTPOP the same day the single goes on sale on August 19.
Artwork for the new single was released by Women's Wear Daily.
It features Gaga wearing white face make-up with blue streaks over her eyes and red and orange splashed across her lips.
The star, real name Stefani Germanotta, will debut Applause at the MTV Video Music Awards next month.
The August 25 performance will mark a major triumph for the singer, who underwent hip surgery in February to treat a labral tear and severe inflammation of her joints.
The star was wheelchair bound for several weeks and had to cancel the remaining dates on her Born This Way Ball concert tour, as well as put the album on hold.
Gaga has a storied history of performing at the VMAs.
She famously bloodied herself during a rendition of Paparazzi on the VMA stage in 2009 and performed You And I in 2011.
Her famous meat dress was also unveiled on the VMA red carpet.
She has 13 Moonmen in total.
