Lambert: Blake’s my sunshine
Miranda Lambert admits that she worries herself “into oblivion”.
The country singer is married to fellow musician and The Voice coach Blake Shelton. The 31-year-old has admitted in a new interview that her husband often acts as her knight in shining armour.
“I'm not sunshine and roses. Blake's the happiest person on the planet,” she told the American edition of Marie Claire. “He pulls me out of my darkness … Literally, everything is the best about being married."
The couple tied the knot in May 2011 on a ranch in Texas after five years of dating. As well as Blake’s support and help in achieving a sunny disposition, Miranda has figured out how to be a bit easier on herself as the years have gone by.
“I'm always anxious. I will worry myself into oblivion. I was trying to make everything regimented, and it caused too much stress,” she revealed. “I learned everything doesn't have to be perfect. That sometimes it's OK to say, 'I don't want to be the boss today. I have PMS. Bother someone else.' I like things better flawed anyway."
Those imperfections help inspire the singer to write her music. But during her career, she has had to figure out how to sort the good advice from the bad, and when to follow her gut instinct.
“Early on, an artist told me, 'Don't be yourself. Perform and be someone else. And I thought, 'That seems like exactly the opposite of what I should be doing,'” she recalled. “Then I had people wanting me to adjust my lyrics to be more appealing to the masses or whatever. I said, 'No, that's bullshit.' I'd rather sell four copies of something that's real than 4 million copies of something that's fake."
