Laverne and Caitlyn finally meet
Laverne Cox has supported Caitlyn Jenner at a special screening of her upcoming TV show, which follows her as she transitions.
I Am Cait will air on the E! channel and follows Caitlyn, who used to be known as Bruce, during her transition. There was a special screening of the programme last night, which Orange Is the New Black star Laverne attended. The transgender actress has been open about her support for Caitlyn, and she was thrilled to come face to face with her.
"@caitlynjenner and I finally met in person at a special private advance screening of #IAmCait. #TransIsBeautiful #girlslikeus #caitlynjenner (sic)," Laverne captioned a picture on Instagram.
The shot showed her in a black crop top and with her long blonde hair loose over her shoulders. She was standing next to a smiling Caitlyn, who also had her hair down and wore a delicate silver necklace and white top.
The event was quite the occasion, with many members of the transgender community stepping out to show their support. Among them was actress Trace Lysette, who also posted a picture of herself with Caitlyn online and called the star very "brave".
The TV show will hit screens on July 26
Laverne was one of the first stars to speak out after Caitlyn debuted her new look on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in June. She wrote several lengthy blog posts about the star, praising her for her bravery and explaining her hopes for what this means for the community.
"I am so moved by all the love and support Caitlyn is receiving. It feels like a new day, indeed, when a Tran’s person can present her authentic self to the world for the first time and be celebrated for it so universally (sic)," Laverne wrote on Tumblr. "Many have commented on how gorgeous Caitlyn looks in her photos, how she is “slaying for the Gods.” I must echo these comments in the vernacular, “Yasss Gawd! Werk Caitlyn! Get it!”... Yes, Caitlyn looks amazing and is beautiful but what I think is most beautiful about her is her heart and soul, the ways she has allowed the world into her vulnerabilities."
