Laverne Cox has written a moving blog post about Caitlyn Jenner.

Yesterday Caitlyn, formally known as Bruce Jenner, was revealed as the cover star of the latest edition of Vanity Fair magazine, marking the first time she has appeared in public as a woman and revealed her new name.

Transgender actress Laverne has nothing but praise for Caitlyn and the way she has handled herself through the process. In the accompanying interview, Caitlyn, 65, explained that she knew she had to be open about her true self as she didn't want to have regrets about wasting her life on her death bed.

"I am so moved by all the love and support Caitlyn is receiving. It feels like a new day, indeed, when a Tran’s person can present her authentic self to the world for the first time and be celebrated for it so universally," Laverne wrote on Tumblr. "Many have commented on how gorgeous Caitlyn looks in her photos, how she is “slaying for the Gods.” I must echo these comments in the vernacular, “Yasss Gawd! Werk Caitlyn! Get it!”... Yes, Caitlyn looks amazing and is beautiful but what I think is most beautiful about her is her heart and soul, the ways she has allowed the world into her vulnerabilities."

Laverne is also in awe of how publicly Caitlyn and her family have chosen to discuss her transition. In April Bruce gave a TV interview to Diane Sawyer confirming his transition, with the effect it has had on his family shown on their TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Her step-daughter Khloé Kardashian was one of the first to tweet her delight at Caitlyn's cover yesterday, with her ex-wife Kris Jenner and daughters Kendall and Kylie, quickly following suit. Kim and Kourtney also congratulated her decision publicly.

However, Laverne also pointed out that not all transgender people have as much help at their fingertips as she and Caitlyn do. While she was initially thrilled when people called her beautiful, the actress realises that others don't have access to the same great lighting she does during photoshoots. Laverne also points out that genetics are important to a person's overall look, which is why she doesn't want the media to focus solely on famous transgender people.

"Most trans folks don’t have the privileges Caitlyn and I have now have. It is those trans folks we must continue to lift up, get them access to healthcare, jobs, housing, safe streets, safe schools and homes for our young people," she wrote.

"I hope, as I know Caitlyn does, that the love she is receiving can translate into changing hearts and minds about who all Trans people are as well as shifting public policies to fully support the lives and wellbeing of all of us. The struggle continues… (sic)."
