Lea Michele: Family are my rock

Lea Michele has told how her parents have helped her cope following the death of Cory Monteith.

The US singer and actress' boyfriend and Glee co-star died of an accidental drugs and alcohol overdose in Vancouver, Canada, in July.

Lea told People. "My family has experienced a lot of loss in their life and they've been so wonderful in being there for me and giving me the strength I need."

The 27-year-old was writing songs for her first album, Louder, when she was told that Cory, 31, who played Finn Hudson in the show, had died.

Lea said a track she recorded afterwards, Cannonball, "helped to lift me up".

She added: "Music can really help you in times of need, and that's what this song did for me and I hope that's what it does for others as well.

"I brought my dad to the studio and he cried the entire time. But for me it's been very empowering. I've used this song as a rock."
