LeAnn Rimes: 'Frenzy over affair destroyed my confidence'
LeAnn Rimes has finally regained her confidence after the backlash over her affair with Eddie Cibrian.
The frenzy over LeAnn Rimes' affair with actor Eddie Cibrian destroyed the singer's confidence.
LeAnn, 33, was married to dancer Dean Sheremet when she met Eddie, 43, who was wed to former model Brandi Glanville at the time, when they starred as romantic leads in the 2009 TV movie Northern Lights.
News of the affair broke following LeAnn and Dean's separation in July 2009, with Brandi and Eddie also indicating they would divorce not long after.
Revelations of the affair caused a public backlash against LeAnn and Eddie, who subsequently wed in 2011. And the How Do I Live? singer admits that the negative reaction badly hit her confidence, something she's only managed to rebuild after battling depression and anxiety.
"I do not recommend it (the affair) to anyone," she told Britain's The Times newspaper. "My confidence got knocked down a lot and I had to find my way back."
The star, who entered rehab for depression in 2012, explains that it's only now after five years in her new marriage she's been able to put the scandal behind her.
"I allowed myself to crumble," she sighed. "As human beings we're allowed to fall apart; it's never pretty but it's how you rebuild."
The former child star, who won a Grammy Award at the age of 14, admits that her personal problems were partially caused by the pressure she felt as a teenage star to provide for her family.
"I needed to figure out how to take care of myself," LeAnn shared. "Because I'd been taking care of everyone else for so long...I never had normal kid experiences. I was working and had all these responsibilities: 60 people on the road with me by the time I was 14...I was always surrounded by adults."
Tensions with her father Wilbur, who also acted as her manager during the first part of her career, came to a head in 2000 when she sued him and another member of her management team for $7 million (£5.35 million), a case which was settled on undisclosed terms two years later.
The star, who has long ago reconciled with her dad says of the episode, "I wanted my dad to be my dad. I really don't think it's possible to have a healthy relationship where parents are managing you."
