Lea’s musical strength

Lea Michele found recording new music an empowering experience.

The 27-year-old, whose debut album Louder is released on December 10, confesses that she’s used music to help her through the tragic time following Cory’s shock death in July.

The actor was found dead at the age of 31 in a Vancouver hotel following a night of partying. The coroner’s report stated he died from a mixed drug toxicity consisting of heroin and alcohol.

First single Cannonball in particular has given her the strength to move forward.

"I brought my dad to the studio and he cried the entire time. But for me it's been very empowering. I've used this song as a rock,” she told People magazine.

“It’s more than just a song to me. It completely helped to lift me up at a time where I needed it. Music can really help you in times of need, and that's what this song did for me and I hope that's what it does for others as well.”

The Glee star also leaned heavily on her family in the days after Cory’s death and the actress credits them with helping her grieve.

Talking about her plans for the holidays Lea said the festive season will be low key family event this year.

“The holidays will be with mum and dad, simple this year. We’re maybe going to take a little holiday over New Year's and just enjoy ourselves.

“My family has experienced a lot of loss in their life and they've been so wonderful in being there for me and giving me the strength I need,” she said.
