Leto’s ‘holy crap’ moment
Jared Leto admits his brain almost entirely shut down when he won an Oscar.
The 42-year-old actor won an Oscar earlier this year for portraying transgender character Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club.
And when he went onstage to receive his trophy during the ceremony, Jared admits his brain felt like it completely shut down for a moment.
"I was talking to [Leonardo DiCaprio] at the Golden Globes and he said, 'When you're standing up there, it's just gone,'" the Thirty Seconds to Mars singer recounted during a New York Times’ TimesTalk interview. "And I remember standing there [on the Academy Awards stage]... and I'm like, 'Holy, sh*t! Okay! We're here’. I looked out and you see all these faces. It's Meryl Streep, it's [Oprah Winfrey] and it's Harrison Ford - it's all these people. And then who do I look at? Robert f**king De Niro, the scariest guy in the entire place. And he's looking at me like, 'What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do, kid?'"
Luckily he was able to gain his composure to give a great speech.
Jared ensured he got it together enough in time to acknowledge the most important people in his life.
"I knew that it was an incredible opportunity and I wanted to thank my brother... and my mum,” he shared. “I knew I wanted to say something about this great big planet that we've had the privilege to travel around."
Despite having received so many accolades for his work in Dallas Buyers Club, Jared still hasn’t witnessed his own performance.
But he thinks he’ll get around to viewing the movie sometime in the future.
"I will [watch it] at some point, I'm sure," he said. "It can never live up to the expectations I would have of it now because it was such a beautiful experience and the response that it got was really wonderful."
