Liam Neeson has told how his late wife Natasha Richardson took singing lessons behind his back to serenade him at their wedding.

The Ballymena born Taken actor recalled the touching story on Thursday while chatting with John Benjamin during the My Favourite Song segment on Radio Andy.

He made listeners smile as he told how Natasha, who passed away after a skiing accident in 2009, secretly got her vocal chords up to scratch to make their 1994 nuptials even more special.

"Behind my back Natasha had been taking singing lessons to sing it to me," he smiled.

"After the ceremony we were all going out to start the night's festivities and she grabbed the microphone and she sang me this (Van Morrison's Crazy Love).

"She had learned it and I was like 'Wow!'"

Liam and Natasha had one of the strongest unions in showbiz, with their sons Micheál and Daniel also by their side.

Following Natasha's sad passing at the age of 45, Liam kept quiet on the matter. He poured himself into work, starring in movies such as The A-Team and The Lego Movie.

In 2014 he broke his silence, opening up about his late wife during an appearance on 60 Minutes.

"I spoke to her and she said, 'Oh darling. I've taken a tumble in the snow'. That's how she described it," he told Anderson Cooper.

Liam flew to her side in Montreal, but things took a turn for the worst and it was here doctors told him Natasha was now brain dead and on life support.

The pair had previously made a pact, detailing that if either of them went into a vegetative state, the other would take them off of the machines.

"I went in to her and told her I loved her," he said. "Said, 'Sweetie, you're not coming back from this. You've banged your head. It's – I don't know if you can hear me, but that's – this is what's gone down. And we're bringing ya back to New York. All your family and friends will come'."
