Lily James: 'Cate Blanchett knows what she's talking about'
Lily James admires actress Janet McTeer so much, she wants to be her.
Actress Lily James found herself inspired by Cate Blanchett's wise words.
Movie veteran Cate has been the darling of Hollywood since finding fame in 1997, and has gone on to bag two Oscars over the past 19 years. She's once again up for a golden statue at the 2016 ceremony, for her lead role in Carol.
Lily got the chance to work with Cate on last year's (15) Cinderella, and has taken some of her advice on board.
"When I was doing Cinderella, I did an interview with Cate Blanchett," Lily explained to Britain's Big Issue magazine. "She said, ‘Do the things that frighten you, do the things that challenge you because otherwise – what is the point?’
“I feel like every actor makes a few blunders – those films you watch and go, ‘What are you doing in this?’ And I’m sure I will make some. But so far I have learnt on every job. It may not be about acting but how to operate under pressure or cope when I am not having a great time. And that enriches you as an actor and as a person.”
As well as starring in opulent TV period drama War & Peace for the BBC, Lily has plenty of movie work to keep her busy. She's currently has The Kaiser's Last Kiss in production, about the last days of Wilhelm II in Holland, and also 2017 flick Baby Driver.
“Oh my god, Eddie Marsan is so good, and Janet McTeer I love so much," she said of her The Kaiser's Last Kiss co-stars. "I want to be like her!
“And I am doing Edgar Wright’s new film (Baby Driver) in February (16). Yeah, that’s not a bad cast – Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx. Whatever… I play an American waitress, which couldn’t be more different."
