Lily James recalls dad’s death

Lily James has revealed the death of her father actually helped her with a scene in new film Cinderella.

The 25-year-old British actress’ career is going from strength to strength, having landed a role on hit show Downton Abbey and the titular part in new live-action Disney picture Cinderella.

And the star confesses it is a challenge to be experiencing so much career success sometimes, as she’d like her late dad to be celebrating the feats with her.

"Yeah. It's sh*t,” she told the UK’s Sunday Times Style Magazine.

Lily’s father Jamie Thomson was also an actor and he died while she was attending drama school in 2008 after battling cancer.

"That's sort of why my experience of drama school is pretty unique - it happened while I was there,” she explained.

But Lily claims her dad’s passing helped her with portraying Cinderella authentically.

The star identified personally with what her character was going through.

“I had a scene where I was told my dad had died, so it was really hard, but I feel what's important in the film is that Cinderella gains strength from her loss and that was something I could ... That was in me,” she shared.

However, the pain from her father’s demise still haunts her at times.

Lily confesses she thinks it will take “the whole of my life" to process the loss.

Cinderella, which also stars Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter, was released in US on March 13 and will reach UK theatres on March 27.
