Lindsay Lohan has been arrested.
The 26-year-old actress was at a nightclub in New York City when she began arguing with another female. According to TMZ, Lindsay was taken into custody at around 4am on Thursday after the altercation became physical.
"Our sources say Lohan was at Club Avenue when she got into some sort of argument with a female patron and it became physical. We're told cops came and arrested Lindsay for allegedly assaulting her," the website reports.
Further details of the incident remain unclear, although it is understood the actress remains in custody.
It is thought the two women were sitting in separate booths at the establishment. They began verbally sparring, with Lindsay heard telling the female to give her "space". It is then alleged that the actress punched the woman.
Lindsay has been involved in a string of legal problems over the last year. She has been accused of stealing and it was claimed she was involved in a hit-and-run in September although the case never went to court.
Police were also called after an argument with her mother Dina became violent, with Lindsay later retracting comments she had made about Dina taking cocaine. She also alleged she was assaulted by a man she'd met at a party in her New York City hotel room earlier this year.
The actress was involved in a car crash in June, where her Porsche hit a large truck on the freeway. At the time she told police her assistant Gavin Doyle was driving, although he later clarified that it was actually her.
She is expected to appear in court in connection with the incident within the next few weeks, where her probation - in connection to the theft of necklace, which she pleaded no contest to - could be revoked.
