Lindsay Lohan is reportedly "full of anger".
The troubled 26-year-old actress was arrested and charged with assault after apparently hitting Tiffany Eve Mitchell in the face at a New York City nightclub in the early hours of Thursday morning.
On the same day, Lindsay was also formally charged in Los Angeles with three crimes related to a car accident that occurred in June, after which she lied to police saying that she was not driving during the crash.
It seems that Lindsay is acting out to avoid her problems.
"Lindsay is full of anger. She's grown up in a false reality full of entitlement, 'yes people,' money and a family that enables her troubled behaviour," a source told Radar Online.
"The partying; the drinking and the drugs, it's her way of trying to cope with her mounting legal and career woes. It's like she's purposely self-destructing."
Lindsay's performance in her recent Lifetime movie Liz & Dick has been largely panned by critics.
It has been recently revealed that her father Michael is parent to a love child and Lindsay got into an altercation in which police were called with her mother Dina in October.
She is falling apart and looking to booze for support.
"Lindsay's family life and failing career is no excuse for her behaviour, but she's more than happy to use it as a crutch to act out," a friend of the star revealed to the website.
"So far she's been above the law in a sense, and without dire consequences she'll continue to behave irrationally. When she drinks, which is daily at this point, she acts completely out of control and doesn't care one bit who she's hurting in the process."
Meanwhile Lindsay's assault victim Tiffany has hired famous lawyer Gloria Allred to take on her case.
"I can confirm that I am representing Tiffany Mitchell and I have no further comment at this time," Gloria told Radar.
Lindsay is still on probation for a jewellery theft offence and faces jail time should this be revoked in light of her new indictments.
