Lindsay Lohan rejects plea bargain

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan has rejected a plea bargain deal which would send her to rehab in favour of standing trial.

Radar Online reports that the troubled actress has turned down the offer that would see her spend nine months in rehab and keep her out of jail.

According to the website, Lindsay's new lawyer Mark Heller believes he can get her acquitted of all criminal charges stemming from a car accident last summer in Santa Monica.

She is accused of lying to police by telling them she was not driving at the time of the crash.

The actress was on probation at the time of the accident for shoplifting charges connected to a 2011 necklace theft case.

"Lindsay has convinced Mark that she never lied to cops when they asked her if she was driving the car that day," a source told Radar.

"There was a plea bargain offer on the table for Lindsay to go to rehab for nine months, but she absolutely refused that. Mark won't sign off on a deal that sends Lindsay to rehab for more than 60 days."

The actress is due to appear in court on January 30 where a date will be set for the trial.
