Lionel: Bruce and I got on famously

Lionel Blair has revealed he wants to "bury the hatchet" with Sir Bruce Forsyth.

The pair apparently fell out a few years ago after Lionel missed Bruce's 80th birthday bash, but the star has now said that it was all a misunderstanding and he would love the pair to mend their rift, reported the Daily Mirror.

The 82-year-old said: "I love Brucie and I'm too old for bad friends. Our future is too short.

"I'd like to meet up, have a drink and bury the hatchet."

Celebrity Big Brother star Lionel explained that he missed the Strictly star's birthday because of a mix-up.

He said: " I got a call from his manager two days before saying he thought Bruce had invited me. But I was already booked for a charity event and I couldn't get out of it so I said sorry I couldn't go.

"They asked whether I could go afterwards but I said it would be too late because I was at the Commons and going for a tour around afterwards. You can't just leave.

"But they laid a place for me and my wife Susan so it looked like we just didn't turn up - as though we had snubbed him. That was naughty. I wasn't going to call him and sort it out because I didn't think it was my fault."

Lionel said he and Bruce, 85, have bumped into each other a few times since then but that there is "a distance" between them now.

" It's sad because we got on famously," he said.
