Lindsay Lohan apparently "loathes" the new lawyer representing her in her probation violation case.
The actress is facing up to 245 days in jail for allegedly lying to police about being behind the wheel during her June car crash in Los Angeles.
She was still on probation from her 2011 necklace theft case at the time of the accident.
Lindsay reportedly had a falling out with her longtime attorney Shawn Chapman Holley before the case was brought before a judge on Wednesday.
New York-based lawyer Mark Heller represented the actress at her pre-trial hearing this week.
He was criticised for sucking up to Judge Stephanie Sautner and stumbling over his words as he addressed the court.
According to Radar Online, Lindsay is unhappy with her new representation and is desperately seeking to replace Mark.
"Lindsay has been on the phone calling criminal defence attorneys in Los Angeles trying to hire someone new to represent her. She absolutely loathes Mark Heller and doesn't feel confident that he can successfully represent her," a source told the website.
The Mean Girls star is believed to have reached out to high-powered attorney Robert Shapiro. He represented the actress several years ago before she turned to Shawn Holley but was apparently unavailable.
Four other attorneys are said to have already turned her down.
Radar earlier reported Lindsay owes Shawn over $300,000 in fees. Neither party has confirmed that report.
The actress is facing charges including giving false information to a police officer, obstructing or resisting an officer in the performance of his duty and reckless driving.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 18.
Another pre-trial hearing is scheduled for March 1, which Lindsay will not be required to attend.
