Lohan's lawyer gets socialite sponsor
Lindsay Lohan's new lawyer is now able to defend her in California thanks to a recent sponsorship.
The actress is believed to have fired her longtime lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, earlier this month.
TMZ reported the 26-year-old actress hired New York attorney Mark Heller.
Questions arose as to how Mark would defend Lindsay in her ongoing probation violation case in Los Angeles as he had not been admitted to practice law in California.
The website reports Mark has been sponsored by a local socialite named Lindsay Berger Sacks.
The woman was reportedly admitted to practice law in the state in 1994 but became inactive two years later.
She is said to have reactivated her membership with the state Bar Association last week after 17 years of being unable to practice in California.
Mark reportedly filed legal documents to represent Lindsay within days of her reactivation and named the woman as his sponsor.
Lindsay's representation appeared to be in flux last Tuesday as Shawn appeared in court on her behalf to enter a not guilty plea for charges of reckless driving and lying to police.
Shawn noted at the time the "representation issue" needed to be "nailed down".
The charges stem from Lindsay's June car crash in Santa Monica, California. She was on probation at the time of the accident for shoplifting charges connected to a 2011 necklace theft case.
Lindsay has been ordered to appear in court on January 30 and could face up to 245 days in jail if a judge finds she violated her probation.
