Lucy Liu is mother to baby boy Rockwell Lloyd after welcoming him into the world via a gestational surrogate.

The 46-year-old Elementary actress welcomed son Rockwell Lloyd into the world via a gestational surrogate.

The news came alongside a touching picture of Lucy adoringly cradling the new addition to her family, who is seen looking up at his mother.

“Introducing the new little man in my life, my son Rockwell Lloyd Liu," Lucy captioned the picture on Instagram. "In [love]!"

More details of Rockwell’s arrival were revealed by a representative for the star.

However, the identity of Lucy’s surrogate has yet to be announced.

"I can confirm that Lucy Liu is the proud mother of Rockwell Lloyd Liu, brought into the world via gestational carrier," the representative told Us Weekly. "Mom and baby are healthy and happy."

Lucy is currently believed to be single.

She has previously been in relationships with stars including In Plain Sight actor Will McCormack.

Lucy has been kept busy in recent years thanks to her role as Joan Watson opposite Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock in Elementary.

As well as appearing in the CBS series, Lucy has also directed several episodes.

However, she also opened up in a recent interview about the challenges she has faced as a woman in Hollywood.

“It’s harder for women in general,” she told The View. “You have to ask and ask and ask. You have to break the door down… and come in with a real belief in what you’re doing. Television is a machine. You jump on to this conveyer belt that is going at a very quick speed, and if you can’t keep up you fall off and fall hard. After having directed, you really don’t see things the same way anymore. You approach things with a different eye, as a different person, ultimately.”
