Luke Perry honours Shannen Doherty at Beverly Hills, 90210 cast reunion
The actress has been fighting breast cancer.
Luke Perry paid a touching tribute to Shannen Doherty on Saturday (12Nov16) as he reunited with their Beverly Hills, 90210 co-stars at an Illinois fan event.
Doherty, who is battling breast cancer, was noticeably absent as Perry joined Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Gabrielle Carteris, Christine Elise, and Vincent Young at REWindCon in Bloomingdale.
However, Perry made sure to give his former onscreen girlfriend a shout out as they reminisced about their time on the show.
"None of us are up here today without Shannen," he told fans. "She's been through a lot. She's not doing well right now but sometimes her contributions are minimised... but she's a very big part of the success of this show. She taught me a lot. I'm glad she was my scene partner. She was great at what she did in the character with me."
The pair played boyfriend and girlfriend Dylan McKay and Brenda Walsh on the hit 1990s series, which ran until 2000.
Garth was also thinking about Doherty as she attended the cast reunion, and took to Instagram to share an inspirational message for her old pal.
Alongside a post featuring the words "Fight Like a Brenda", Garth wrote, "To my soul sister @theshando strongest lady I've ever known, then and now. I used to be threatened by your spirit, now i'm in awe of it. you've taught me a lot about speaking my mind and not being afraid of my power. i'm so grateful that young me got to be friends with you. but especially 'old' me! the best is yet to come on this crazy journey!! love you (sic)!".
Doherty, 45, went public with her breast cancer battle last year (15) and has been documenting her health crisis on Instagram.
The actress, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy, recently admitted the disease has turned her into a completely different person.
"I think what's beautiful and hard and interesting about cancer is that it tears you down and builds you, and tears you down and builds you," she told U.S. talk show host Chelsea Handler last month (Oct16). "It remakes you so many different times. The person I thought I was supposed to be or was going to be or who I thought I was six months ago is now somebody completely different."
