Lupita and Eva meet the Dalai Lama

Lupita Nyong'o and Eva Longoria were among the celebrities who flocked to see the Dalai Lama at a star-studded event in California.

The Tibetan spiritual leader, who is in the US on a speaking tour, attracted an A-list audience for a Q&A session in California.

Larry King, Anna Kendrick, Amber Heard, Naomi Watts, Jeremy Renner, Jim Carrey, Joshua Jackson, Christina Hendricks, Rosario Dawson and Sandra Oh were among the line-up, E! News reported.

It said the celebrity audience stood up in respect when the exiled Buddhist monk entered the room, arm-in-arm with Sharon Stone.

Eric Benet performed What the World Needs Now Is Love as the audience sang along during the event, hosted by The Lourdes Foundation, which works to inspire underprivileged children around the world.

China reportedly denounced US President Barack Obama's meeting with Dalai Lama earlier this month.

The Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his opposition to the use of violence in campaigning for Tibetan self-rule.
