Lyndhurst first to beat up Waterman

Nicholas Lyndhurst had to fight with Dennis Waterman in New Tricks

Nicholas Lyndhurst has revealed his new job involved beating up Dennis Waterman in his first week.

The Only Fools And Horses star has just joined the cast of New Tricks and told TV Times it included a daunting first few scenes between his character Danny and Dennis' Gerry.

He said: "Gerry thinks Danny is a mole and the pair do come to blows. We filmed the fight scene during my first week, so I was very careful. Not many people have beaten up Dennis Waterman - it's probably a telly first!"

Despite his baptism of fire on the show, Nicholas said he was getting on well with the rest of the cast.

He said: "Everyone is great. I don't know if it's to do with age or experience, but everyone knows exactly what they're doing because they've all been acting for so long. That makes it enjoyable."
