Madonna gun show upsets Colorado fans

Madonna

Madonna has angered fans in Colorado after performing a gun scene in concert.

Fake shots rang out at Denver's Pepsi Center during the 54-year-old star's performance of her song Gang Bang, while blood splatters appeared on the big screen.

The controversial performance on Thursday came three months after a horrific mass theatre shooting in the state.

Twelve people were killed during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora on July 20.

Madonna has brandished prop guns throughout her most recent world tour.

However, the issue was a sensitive one for Denver fans still devastated from the tragedy.

Local television station KUSA-TV reported receiving several calls on Friday from angry concertgoers who accused her of promoting violence.

The Sorry hitmaker previously addressed her use of fake guns before kicking off her MDNA tour.

"It's true there is a lot of violence in the beginning of the show and sometimes the use of fake guns -- but they are used as metaphors," she said.

"I do not condone violence or the use of guns. Rather they are symbols of wanting to appear strong and wanting to find a way to stop feelings that I find hurtful or damaging."
