Madonna: My kids are very opinionated
Madonna has opened up on the advice she gave her daughter Lourdes before she went to college.
The 56-year-old singer is gearing up to release her latest album, Rebel Heart, this week. While the star will have to wait to see what music critics think of the record, she got immediate feedback from her four children, Lourdes, 18, Rocco, 13, Mercy, nine, and David Banda, nine.
“They're very opinionated. They love all the Diplo tracks,” she told Carson Daly on the Today Show. “My daughter Lola, who's in university now, kept sending me text messages, saying, 'Mom, can you please text me the Diplo track?' And I'm like, "The record's not out yet. No, I can't send it to you’.”
Rebel Heart is Madonna’s 13th studio album and features writing and production credits for the likes of Kanye West and Avicii. But it seems Lourdes was particularly fixated on the Diplo song.
“'That track is fire, Mom, please send it to me! Send it to me.’” Madonna continued, mimicking her daughter.
It’s been an exciting time for the mother-of-four. Not only is she looking forward to her fans hearing her music, but she’s recently had the chance to see her first child head off to college.
Lourdes is attending the University of Michigan and the Open Your Heart singer shared with Carson what words of advice she had given her daughter.
“Try to do everything in moderation, try not to kill all your brain cells, and try to go to class," she revealed.
The star recently told Access Hollywood about the other ways in which she is trying to guide her offspring. Like any parent, she has had to face the topic of sex, but she hasn’t shied away from it.
“It's just a fact of life isn't it? Somehow, it's gonna happen sometime. It happened to you, so it's gonna happen to [Lourdes]," she noted. "All you can do is [stress] safe sex. Have discussions about it and encourage her to be open with you about it and not judgmental."
