Maisie Williams: I get cyber bullied

Maisie Williams doesn't think the internet is necessarily a dark place, but she has experienced online trolling.

The British actress found fame playing Arya Stark in fantasy drama Game of Thrones, which will be back for a fifth season in April.

Aside from her Thrones duties, Maisie can next be seen in TV movie Cyberbully, which shows the dark side of the internet. While the 17-year-old is an avid social media user, she's no stranger to online bullies. Maisie is especially cautious of certain software after last year's celebrity photo hacking scandal, which saw famous women's intimate photos splashed across the internet.

"I don't have iCloud. I think the photos are such a small part of that, but such a big part of what's going on in the world right now," she explained to British magazine Grazia.

"I get trolled just as much as anyone. I try not to take the internet too seriously."

However Maisie does like to touch base with fans online, and has a Twitter following of nearly 800,000.

She also has an account on Instagram and regularly posts photos of her day-to-day life.

"The internet's been branded this place of hate, but there's so much more to it" she said, adding website Reddit is one of her favourites as you can upvote and downvote, meaning you can eradicate trolls.

When asked how she thinks her Thrones alter ego would react to online nastiness, Maisie was in no doubt how the situation would play out.

"I don't think Arya would have the best approach. She'd be finding out their IP addresses and paying them a little visit," she laughed.
