Mangan: Tony should see Comic Strip

Stephen Mangan wants Tony Blair to see Comic Strip

Stephen Mangan is hoping his performance as Tony Blair will be seen by the man himself.

The Episodes actor plays the former Prime Minister in The Comic Strip Presents The Hunt For Tony Blair, which he describes as "a fugitive film noir spoof retelling of some of the Tony Blair story".

He approached the role in a certain way because it was a comedy, and said: "If I was playing Blair in a drama, he wouldn't be anything like as camp as I've played him."

And there are other attributes the actor enjoyed exaggerating: "Namely, his utter self-belief that nothing is ever his fault, ability to always be in the right and come up, at least in his own mind, smelling of roses."

Given that, he's unsure whether Blair will settle down with a cuppa to watch the film.

"I'm sure he has a sense of humour so I hope he does. But I'm not sure if I'll be hugged or punched if I ever meet Tony Blair," said Stephen.

The programme is a one-off 60-minute special from The Comic Strip Presents crew, many of whose core members (including Jennifer Saunders and Rik Mayall) are returning for another outing.

:: The Comic Strip Presents The Hunt For Tony Blair is on Channel 4 on Friday, October 14.

Aries:

You will have to defer to others, which makes you anxious. There's never any problem when you're in control. You know how to act quickly and decisively. When others are at the helm, progress grinds to a halt. People deliberate endlessly over simple matters. Instead of putting pressure on the person in charge, make a strategic retreat. If you act like you don't care about the outcome of a situation, they won't be paralysed with uncertainty. You have a tendency to make people nervous.More
