Manganiello: Magic Mike sequel’s a bigger rush
Joe Manganiello claims he was deafened by the screams of nearly 1,000 women while filming Magic Mike XXL.
The hunky 37-year-old actor reprises his role as Big Dick Richie in the forthcoming sequel to Magic Mike, a semi-autobiographical movie released in 2012 which is based on co-star Channing Tatum’s previous profession as a male stripper.
And while filming one of the sexy dance scenes, Joe thought his eardrums might burst.
"This time, there were 900 during our dance scene, so it was a bigger rush," he told People magazine. "The sound of 900 screaming women is literally deafening. My ears were ringing for days after I did my final routine.”
But luckily Joe, who stars in the flick opposite Jada Pinkett Smith, Amber Heard and Matt Bomer among others, is no longer self-conscious over his dance technique.
The True Blood star is convinced he has reached a high level of mastery with gyrating stripper moves.
"It's not a big deal anymore," he smiled. "It's old hat at this point."
Magic Mike XXL wrapped filming earlier this month in Savannah, Georgia.
The feature’s conclusion means Joe can finally eat all the calorific foods he desires.
"I eat like a normal human being when I'm not training," he shared. "We were in the South. So there's chicken pot pies and fried chicken and you know, sweet potato soufflé, all of that good fun stuff."
Director Gregory Jacobs’ Magic Mike XXL will reach US theatres in July 2015.
