Mario selects Dave to face eviction

Mario has saved himself from being evicted from the Big Brother house - and chosen Welsh minister Dave to face the public vote in his place.

Mario - who received six out of a possible nine nominations this week - took part in the Save and Replace task against Australian John James and air hostess Rachel.

The Bug Off task involved the three nominated housemates wearing hooded Velcro suits with insect tentacles and antennae, army-crawling along a Velcro piece of 'bug paper' on their stomachs and swatting a fly when they reached the end. The one who completed the task in the fastest time was declared the winner.

After misunderstanding what Big Brother meant by army-crawl, the housemates had to complete the task twice before a winner was decided.

After completing the task for the second time, John James gasped: "Don't make me do that again."

Mario took 27 seconds to complete the task, Australian surfer John James took 49 seconds and Rachel took over four minutes.

After hearing he had won the task and saved himself from facing the public vote, Mario - who is determined to remain in the house until the final - looked pleased. Big Brother then announced he must choose someone to replace him.

Dave shouted: "Do what you got to do, Mole."

Mario said: "Before I do this I want to explain how I came to this decision. I can't pick the girls, because I just can't. I won't pick JJ because he's new, I won't pick Andrew because I couldn't do that to him two weeks in a row. So that leaves Dave and Steve and I know you two understand and won't go crazy. And I still can't choose between you two so I've got a button - one side is red the other is white and I'm going to flip it."

He flipped the button without revealing which colour represented who and said "Sorry Dave".
