The Great British Bake Off's Mary Berry has revealed her Christmas routine entails getting up early, warming crockery in the oven and setting the table.

Berry has welcomed BBC Radio 2 listeners into her home for a sneak preview of her festive plans, as she is joined by Liza Tarbuck.

In Mary Berry: At Home For Christmas, she talks about her favourite festive foods and recipes, and shares some tips with listeners.

She says: "I get up quite early on Christmas morning and put the plates in to heat and I love to lay the table and get it all sorted.

"We have the same Christmas mats and hats. They're getting a bit tatty but the family like to see the things they had before."

Her first choice for a Christmas song is Shakin' Stevens's Merry Christmas Everyone: "It really gets you in the mood for Christmas - it's jolly, it gets everyone humming and tapping their feet - I love it."

She also keeps a 1,000-piece jigsaw in her kitchen for when children need to be kept occupied or the men are "feeling a bit spare".

On Christmas Eve she cooks fish pie for the family, using smoked and unsmoked haddock as well as lots of hard-boiled eggs, "just the way her husband likes it".

:: Mary Berry: At Home For Christmas is on December 24 from midday to 2pm.
