Matronic still mad for Scissors
Ana Matronic has been thrown a “curveball” while working on solo material.
The eccentric pop group have been performing since 2001, but announced an indefinite hiatus in October last year. Having released their last album Magic Hour in 2012, singer Ana is now busy working on solo material. However, she insists the band hasn’t split for good.
“I’m not really sure,” she replied to a UK TV show when asked when the Scissor Sisters will reunite. “But we are definitely not over, we are taking a little break.”
Ana went on to reveal the challenges she has faced being in the recording studio alone. It hasn’t been an easy process putting her album together, but she is confident fans will hear it soon.
“I’ve been working on a solo record. Life has a way of throwing curveballs, so it’s not going as quickly as I thought, but it is going well,” she explained. “We will have that out by the end of the year.”
Ana believes the Scissor Sisters still have a place in the music industry. Known for their upbeat and innovative songs, the group gained a diverse fan base.
“Everyone is having a good time and everyone is welcome. We have never wanted to be exclusionary with our fan base, or the type of music that we make. We like to make music for everybody,” Ana smiled.
The 39-year-old redhead is currently lending her support to the Macmillan coffee morning, an annual charity event which will take place in the UK on September 27 this year. Ana’s mother has battled skin cancer, so the campaign is close to her heart.
“It’s a fun way to raise consciousness and raise money for a good cause,” she said. “Anytime charity comes along, I’m down. Whether it’s HIV or AIDS, cancer, literacy, those are my main interests. Anything dealing with women’s issues or women’s rights I am interested in. Cancer is going to affect one in three people and it’s just one of the most heart-stoppingly tragic things and it’s just so indiscriminate as to who it touches, children, older people, everyone. It was kind of a no brainer for me.”
