Matt offers olive branch - or pint

Matt Cardle said he would go for a pint with James Arthur

Matt Cardle has offered an olive branch to X Factor winner James Arthur after the pair became embroiled in a spat.

Matt, who won the contest in 2010, said he would love to go for a pint with James, who is still top of the singles chart with Impossible.

The pair fell out after James made critical comments about previous male X Factor winners.

Appearing as a guest on ITV's Loose Women, Matt suggested he would be keen to put the Twitter spat behind them.

He told presenters of the show that James "said something offensive to me" and made derogatory remarks about the songwriting on the winners' albums.

Matt said: "He's entitled to an opinion but we're talking about some brilliant songwriters that I wrote the songs with, also offending. So I gave him some friendly advice to try and keep your mouth shut a little bit. I think he's brilliant. I think James is a very, very talented man. I'm sure he'll go very far."

He added that they have not sorted out their differences, and added: "We haven't been for a pint yet. I'd love to go for a pint with him."
