Meghan Markle is following in Princess Diana's footsteps as a committed humanitarian working to change our world.

British royal Prince Harry's actress girlfriend has returned to social media for the first time since her new romance went public to thank friends and family for their support.

Meghan Markle took to Twitter and Instagram on Friday (18Nov16) to single out those who have been by her side amid the media circus over the past month, ever since news of the royal romance leaked.

"Sending some extra love today to Emily, Sol, Domi, Hannah, Sih, Doris, JessyScarlett and all of you who have been so supportive for years," she wrote. "I've missed you guys."

Markle and her prince have yet to be spotted together, but Kensington Palace officials confirmed the romance last month (Oct16) in a statement slamming remarks that had been made online about the Horrible Bosses actress.

It read: "The past week has seen a line crossed. His (Harry's) girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment."

The actress was seen out and about in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea on 10 November (16), amid reports she was staying with her boyfriend at Kensington Palace.

Dressed down in a rain jacket and trendy Hunter wellington boots, Markle was photographed carrying groceries from organic health food store Whole Foods.

The 35-year-old actress appeared to be alone as she made the short walk from the food store back to Harry's royal residence.

Anyone who has read Markle's very smart posts on her The Tig website will understand the attraction for Harry, whose mother Princess Diana is still best remembered for her work in support of those less fortunate than herself.

Stunning Los Angeles-born Meghan, has a social conscience, too, which she credits her therapist mother and Hollywood lighting designer father for instilling in her.

"I’ve never wanted to be lady who lunches," she muses in a recent post on the site, which was titled How To Be Both, referring to her efforts in juggling a showbusiness career with humanitarian efforts. Markle works for the charities World Vision and UN Women amongst others.

"I’ve always wanted to be a woman who works," she continues, "and this type of work is what feeds my soul, and fuels my purpose."
