Melissa McCarthy: 'Kristen Bell is a dream'
Kristen Bell was a huge hit on the set of new movie The Boss because she took lots of snacks to the set.
Melissa McCarthy says “dreamboat” Kristen Bell won her over with a “weird cashew dip”.
The comedy actress teamed up with Kristen for movie The Boss and the pair quickly bonded over their love of savoury snacks. Melissa knew she would enjoy working with Kristen as she is already close friends with her husband Dax Shephard, but her co-star’s culinary talents were a nice surprise.
“Kristen Bell is a real, real dreamboat,” Melissa said in an interview with biography.com. “I was trying to think of something terrible to say about her...But I just can’t! We just hit it off immediately. She’s super crazy, super funny, super nice, and she makes these weird cashew dips and brings it to the set. You show up on set with a cashew dip and I am all yours.”
Kristen made quite an impact on Melissa and the 45-year-old comedienne is still going to great lengths to persuade the blonde star to share her snack secrets. So far, Kristen has remained silent on her special recipe – much to Melissa’s frustration.
“I’m still always calling her and texting her and emailing her, ‘Hey, how about that recipe, lady?’” Melissa joked. “So what can I tell you about Kristen Bell? Cashew dip. The best.”
In The Boss, Melissa plays a wealthy mogul who is used to getting her own way until she’s sent to federal prison for insider trading. After finding herself homeless and a public hate figure, she tracks down her former assistant, played by Kristen, in a bid to her rebuild her career.
One particular scene in the comedy has attracted attention – with the two characters coming to blows in what has been described as a ‘boob fight’. Melissa has revealed that she prepared for the physical sequence by eating sugary treats beforehand.
“Ah, yes, the whole bra-la-la-palooza fight scene,” she smiled. “When we wrote it, we were like, ‘How far will we go? Will Kristen want to go that far?’ Then she was, ‘Oh, let's really get into it.’ So before we shot it, we both have a snack so our blood sugar was up and we both got a little feisty and we just really went for it. At one point, I was laughing so hard because I suddenly became aware that we were actually doing all of this crazy stuff – and we were doing it on camera! I’m quite sure I’ve never seen an epic boob fight in a movie before.”
Melissa wanted the fight scene to have some weight to it and felt inspired by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar-winning performance in The Revenant – which sees his character face off against a bear.
"I didn’t want it to be some slap and tickle thing; I wanted a mauling, like Leo and the bear in The Revenant. That kind of thing!" she laughed.
