Michael Jace charged with murder
The Shield actor Michael Jace has been indicted for the murder of his wife.
The Shield actor’s wife April Jace was gunned down at their family home in the Hyde Park area of Los Angeles earlier this week.
Michael was subsequently taken into custody by police and CNN reports the star has now been charged with murder, having been officially indicted on Thursday.
Preliminary autopsy results reveal April died from multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide by the Los Angeles County Coroner, Deputy Chief Coroner Ed Winter confirmed.
Michael is expected to make his first appearance in court on the homicide charges Thursday afternoon.
The actor called 911 to alert authorities his wife had been shot and police found her lifeless body at their residence Monday night at around 8:30pm PST. Neighbours also dialed emergency services after hearing gunshots. Two children were present in the house when the firearm was blasted.
Law enforcement officials released a statement to the outlet regarding why they think April lost her life.
"At this moment, the motive of the murder is believed to be domestic violence," the police statement read.
Michael, 48, had been married to April for ten years, with the pair celebrating the milestone last June.
In the past Michael was accused of committing domestic violence against his first wife, Jennifer Bitterman. In official court documents from a 2005 child custody case between the former spouses over their son, Jennifer’s friend Maria De Le Vegas claimed she witnessed the alleged physical abuse firsthand.
“[Jace] choked and hit [Jennifer and] slammed her against the wall while [their infant son screamed in his crib next to her," Maria said in the sworn declaration obtained by CNN.
“[Jace] was raging and out of control, and seeing the extent of his anger was one of the most terrifying things I have ever seen.”
