Michael Sheen's relationship with his former partner Kate Beckinsale has become "stronger and stronger" over the years.

Michael Sheen and Kate Beckinsale's relationship is even stronger now they aren't together.

The 47-year-old and Kate dated from 1995 to 2003 and share 17-year-old daughter, Lily Mo Sheen. Despite no longer being in a romantic relationship, they remain close friends, and Michael insists this is due to the fact they both put Lily's wellbeing first.

"That's the thing - it's been 14 years now since we broke up but we've got a daughter and I think anyone who really, genuinely tries to put their daughter first, inevitably your relationship changes but in some ways it's got stronger and stronger over the years, so it's been great," Michael said during an interview on British show Lorraine on Wednesday (01June16).

The former couple recently recreated their first picture with baby Lily, 17 years on. However, Michael joked: "I've not weathered the storm that well... but at least two of the three in that picture have done very well over the years."

Michael is now in a relationship with comedienne Sarah Silverman, who is also close friends with Kate. In a recent interview, Kate said she is thrilled her former love has found happiness with Sarah.

"Sarah's such a fantastic woman," Kate told Stylist magazine recently. "I love her... I'm completely open to any other strong, cool, sensitive independent-thinking women, who are going to be an influence in my daughter's life.

"Sarah's a great person and I'm glad she's in the village that's helping. It's important as a teenager to have good women in your life, building up the fabric of your experience of becoming a woman. Even if Sarah wasn't Michael's girlfriend I'd want her to be in that."

The trio even recently posed on the red carpet together at the premiere of Kate's new movie Love & Friendship, which Michael described as "fantastic".
