Mike Tyson 'excited' at Tony Awards
Mike Tyson was apparently hounded by over-excited fans following his dance routine at Sunday night's Tony Awards.
The former heavyweight boxer has been carving out an acting career in recent years, most notably appearing as a heightened version of himself in the first two Hangover movies.
He has also performed a one-man show and has plans to create a new production based on his life, which he wants to take to Broadway.
The 46-year-old star was the surprise star of Sunday night's Tony Awards, which honour Broadway theatre. Neil Patrick Harris hosted and opened proceedings with a Glee-inspired dance routine, which Mike joined in with. He later attended the post-ceremony gala at the Plaza Hotel in New York City with his wife Lakiha 'Kiki' Spicer. According to New York Post fans "swarmed" the former athlete and he was just as thrilled to be there.
"He was so excited to be in that room with producers and playwrights," an insider said.
"We even saw him doing a little dance as he waited for his car after the bash," the publication added.
Mike is thought to be teaming up with Spike Lee on his new production. The director worked with him on his one-man show Undisputed Truth and the pair met up over the weekend.
"Mike wants to also get into plays and even musicals," an insider explained.
Other stars at the after-party included Jane Krakowski and Tom Hanks.
Cyndi Lauper's musical Kinky Boots was a big winner at Sunday's ceremony, taking six prizes. She threw a bash to celebrate after the event, during which she gave an emotional speech about how powerful music is.
She later went to another after-show held at The Carlyle, which was also the choice of Scarlett Johansson, Alan Cumming and Zachary Quinto.
