Mischa Barton felt 'under pressure'
Mischa Barton has revealed that the stress of being in the spotlight contributed to her breakdown in 2009.
The 27-year-old actress admitted she was under "enormous pressure" after she was propelled to fame from the success of hit series, The OC.
"We thought, 'Work hard, play hard'. It was a full-on breakdown. I was under enormous pressure," she told People.
Mischa - whose OC co-stars included Rachel Bilson, Adam Brody, Benjamin McKenzie and Olivia Wilde - was involuntarily admitted to a psychiatric ward in 2009, after blacking out under the influence of a sedative and threatening to kill herself.
She had been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving two years earlier, and her parents tried to stage an intervention as her partying ways spiralled out of control.
She admitted the constant attention on her looks had a toll on her too.
"It was always, 'She's too skinny, she must be sick'. Then it was, 'She's too big'. I was never the right weight," she said.
The British-born actress has been focusing on her career. She appeared in the music video to Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' single Everybody's On The Run, will star in thriller Homefront with Jason Statham and James Franco, and has filmed a TV pilot called The Gutsy Frog.
"I've learned a lot, I'm stronger now," she added.
