My tumour is gone, says Douglas

Michael Douglas was interviewed by Matt Lauer for NBC's Today show

Michael Douglas said his tumour has gone and he may have beaten throat cancer.

In an interview for US TV network NBC's Today show, the Hollywood star, who is married to actress Catherine Zeta Jones, said he felt relieved after a "wild, six-month ride" and said: "I feel good, relieved. The tumour is gone.

"But, you know, I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain. I guess there's not a total euphoria.

"I'll probably take a couple of months of getting checked out. But it's been a wild six-month ride."

He added: "I think the odds are, with the tumour gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I've got it beat."

The actor also told Today show host Matt Lauer that he had been "eating like a pig" after losing weight during his treatment. He said he had lost 32lb (14.5kg), but was now working out and had put 12lb (5.5kg) back on.

Douglas, 66, is set to begin filming Steven Soderbergh's Liberace in May or June. He will be playing the title role.

He has also been nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

The actor revealed he had throat cancer last August.

Gemini:

You never do anything in moderation. Attend every fun party, accept every juicy offer and try all the delectable treats spread before you. Avoid unpleasant people and activities like the plague. This should be a time of enjoyment. Leave your list of chores at home. You can always attend to these jobs at another time. If you have a chance to show your creative work to a publisher, manager or agent, go ahead. This is also a great opportunity to go on job interviews, auditions and first dates.More
