Naya’s ‘no friends of the opposite sex’ policy
Naya Rivera thinks having friends of the opposite sex when married is “playing with fire”.
The 27-year-old Glee star married actor Ryan Dorsey in a lavish July ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. And she believes once you’re in a loving relationship, friends of the opposite sex should be cut off.
Mary J. Blige declared this was her policy in a chat with Naya on The View, and the star wholeheartedly agreed.
“I think that's amazing. I'm with Mary. I just got married and I'm pretty sure I told my husband that like two days ago," she told the panel and studio audience of the American chat show.
She and Ryan were married just three months after she ended her engagement to rapper Big Sean. They’d been friends for four years prior to commencing a romantic relationship, but now Naya is Ryan’s only female friend.
"It's really not so much a rule as I understand it, because I feel like you're playing with fire and opening up the floodgates here, and you're having issues in your marriage, but someone is going to talk to the opposite sex to get advice or whatever and you should be talking to your partner. So I don't believe in it," she explained.
Justifying her reasoning, the brunette beauty made it clear it’s not about doubting her husband’s motives. It’s other women she has trouble trusting.
“It's not so much that you like don't trust your relationship or your husband or your wife or anything. You kind of don't trust outsiders and other people. You don't know what their motives are,” Naya elaborated. "I feel like there's a difference between having an issue with that when you're married and when you're just dating someone. I feel like when you're married, if you're now someone's wife, I'm sorry, ladies, but you got to get back a little bit more. It's different."
She also took the opportunity to talk about how the Kardashian clan slammed her for making a negative comment about Kim’s nude Paper magazine photo shoot last week. She had written on Instagram that the reality star was “somebody’s mother”, and friend of the family Jonathan Cheban subsequently wrote a hate blog about her.
"I do want to point out that was Miley Cyrus making fun of that," Naya noted. "I didn't know if I was the only person who had anything to say."
