Neil Patrick Harris’ grandma passes
Neil Patrick Harris is in mourning after his grandmother passed away on Christmas Day, aged 92.
The former How I Met Your Mother star announced the sad news of Martha Jeanne Harris’ passing on his Instagram page on Tuesday.
Neil revealed that Martha died on Christmas Day, at the age of 92, surrounded by family.
Alongside a picture of the order of service from Martha’s funeral, Neil wrote: “My grandma passed away on Thursday night, services are today. Martha Jeanne Harris was 92, lived a long, lovely life. We shared a birthday, 6/15. She'll be missed.”
Martha was Neil’s father Ronald’s mom. Along with Neil, she is survived by another five grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, including the actor’s twin children Gideon and Harper.
The pair are Neil’s offspring with husband David Burtka, who he began dating in 2004 before he publicly came out as gay in 2006.
And while Neil’s parents have come to accept his sexuality, the actor admitted in a recent interview that they were concerned he’d have a “ton of partners” before settling down.
"He [his father] comes from a military, more biblical background," he told Barbara Walters during her The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014 show. "They were worried that it meant bad things, that I was going to be in sex clubs risking my health and having a ton of partners. It didn't take long for me to prove to them that I'm not that way."
Despite losing his grandmother, it hasn’t all been bad news for the actor this year, as his family were on hand to help him celebrate his marriage to David in September during an intimate ceremony in Italy.
