Neil Patrick Harris: I’m vitamin rich
Neil Patrick Harris takes a lot of vitamins to ensure he doesn’t get sick while performing on Broadway.
The How I Met Your Mother actor is currently performing in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway. The 40-year-old star took home the Tony Award for best actor in a musical on Sunday night.
In the musical comedy, Neil plays a transgender rocker looking for love. During each production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch Neil kisses a stranger in the audience, prompting him to take some measures to ensure he doesn’t catch any illnesses.
"[My voice coach] has handfuls of pills that I'm supposed to be taking," Neil told People Magazine. "I keep my levels high – a lot of Vitamin C."
Neil had blood work done prior to the start of the production in order to determine what vitamins he needed to take. Additionally, he drinks plenty of liquids, attends physical therapy and does cardio.
"I'm trying to ride above before I get sick," he said. "I can't get sick."
The star has also performed on stage in Romeo and Juliet, Cabaret, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street in Concert and Assassins.
While enjoying his time on the stage, he has said he misses parenting.
“That's the challenging one at the moment,” he told Zap2It. “The show is wonderful and structured, but the show doesn't allow me to put them down to sleep. I see them once I wake up, only for a small period of time. I am regretting that.”
Neil and his partner David Burtka have two children together, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace. The twins are three years old.
